Selecting your Type of Web Hosting Service
September 30, 2008 by Ricardo d Argence · View Comments
Is the web site you run multifaceted? How complex your website will be is something to discuss with a developer, especially with regard to issues like graphics use and database administration. You may need to ask an Internet specialist about the type of hosting that you require.
Many free web hosting services come with ads either at the top or the bottom of your pages, these ads may not be conducive to your sites original intent. Get a free web hosting package that matches with the online ad that’s already there if you’re going to get a site with ads.
Free hosting also has low bandwidth on the Internet because of so many people using the free service instead of the paid service. Basically, you also get a free web email account with free hosting services.
Then there is hosting that you pay for that you have more control over when you load and host your web site. You get POP mail access and can create as many emails as you want to which depends on the type of account that you pay for.
Every company has special packages for each and every need. From personal to business servers, even servers for special kinds of operating systems (UNIX, Windows, Linux and Apple) the choices vary depending on what you want to do.
Pricing is dependent on the amount of server space necessary to load your applications so a consideration must be made of what you desire to put on the server through your web site.

Tips and Advice on Hard Drive Data Recovery
September 29, 2008 by Ray Lam · View Comments
The first step is to copy the corrupt hard disk to a new one, using a sector-to-sector copy program that will mirror the broken hard drive. There are many ‘bad sector copy, hard drive mirror’ programs that will in most
cases repair bad sectors.
Stellar has awards from such names as PC World and PCQ Labs to their credit for outstanding service and recovery of some top names in our business world. When it comes to recovering your lost data, it pays to know who can bail you out, in your time of need.
There are many hard drive recovery services and support providers. They keep state-of-the-art facilities for disk recovery. They also provide annual maintenance contracts but service or support provided by them is not cheap. Most of the data recovery companies charge an attempt fee. Some of them will charge a lot of money for their work.
Data can be lost during a power failure, because there is unsaved data in the memory which has not yet been saved to the hard drive. Data can also be lost through a disk failure which can happen for a number of reasons, usually mechanical such as a crash in the hard drive machinery itself. Software can also crash on your computer, especially if you are using Microsoft products, and could lead to a loss of data on your hard drive. Viruses or other malicious software can corrupt your data and is one of the biggest reasons for data loss. Fortunately, today’s technology provides a pretty good track record on recovering data from your hard drive.
Using Dreamweaver To Add JavaScript To Your Web Pages
September 28, 2008 by Victoria Barton · View Comments
A Dreamweaver behavior is an automatically generated JavaScript function which is activated by a given user or browser action. To use behaviors, choose Window > Behaviors. Before attaching a behavior, you must highlight one of the elements on your page such as a hyperlink or image. Then you need to choose a behavior by clicking on the plus sign in the top left of the Behaviors window.
Whenever you attach a behavior to a web page element, Dreamweaver attempts to guess what event you want which should trigger the JavaScript (mouse click, rollover, etc.). If Dreamweaver fails to assign the event that you actually want, simply choose a different event from the drop-down menu next to the event name.

Dreamweaver’s behaviors fall into four main categories: manipulation of images, alerts and windows, form field handling and CSS handling. To get a feel for how behaviors work, let’s take an example of a behavior in each of these categories.
There was a time when almost every website featured the rollover effect on its navigation buttons. With the development of CSS, this is no longer the case. However, the facility of having an image change appearance when the mouse passes over it is still useful. Dreamweaver achieves this effect with the “Swap Image” behavior which can either be added to an image or can be created automatically by inserting a rollover image (Insert > Image Objects > Rollover Image) rather than a static one.
Dreamweaver’s “Open Browser Window” behavior allows you to create the controversial JavaScript pop-ups. Due to its extensive misuse, many people have developed an extreme intolerance of this feature. However, there are situations where it is useful. For example, if a user is in the middle of filling out a form and clicks a help icon next to a certain item, a pop-up window is an ideal method of displaying the help topic.
The key behavior relating to forms is called “Validate Form”. It performs simple checks on any text field within a given form. (It ignores any fields other than text fields.) To use it, select a field (the validation will then occur when the user leaves the field) or select the entire form (the validation will then occur when the form is submitted). Choose “Validate Form” form the Behaviors panel menu and specify the type of validation you wish to perform, for example, ensuring that a field has not been left blank.
Dreamweaver contains a couple of very useful behaviors which manipulate the content of HTML elements. To use these, you need to give the element and ID for example,
The DIV element offers the greatest flexibility when using this behavior since it can contain just about anything you want. You highlight the element which will trigger the behavior and then choose Show/Hide Elements from the Behaviors panel menu. Click on any listed element then click either the Show or Hide button.
download toy story divx Each behavior that you choose will create one or more JavaScript functions within the head area of your page. Part of the process of optimising your website (both in terms of accessibility and search engine compatibility) is to transfer this code to an external JavaScript file and then link the web page to the JavaScript file. To do this, you need to be in Code view and locate the function(s) generated by the behavior(s) you have used on your page. Cut all of the code between the opening and closing SCRIPT tags and place it in a text file which needs to be saved with a .js extension. Next, enter an src attribute inside the opening SCRIPT tag, for example .

The Benefits Of 64 Bit Computing Explained
September 27, 2008 by Adrian Edwards · View Comments
There is still a degree of confusion in the market place as to what exactly 64 – bit computing is, where it fits in and what it is used for.
While many processors are 64- bit ready unless you have a 64- bit operating system they are more or less redundant as using a standard version of windows XP or Vista (both of which are 32-bit) will not allow you to access the existing power in your PC or Cad workstation.
This is not necessarily a bad thing however as a vast majority of users for the foreseeable future will never need to use the benefit of this technology.
Essentially they have a car that has all the fittings for a turbo but only a select few will ever need to buy one.
Let’s explain a little further.
house of 9 free download undiscovered movie download Your standard operating system used by a majority of the population has not been designed to use in reality much over 3 GB of ram at the very outside and for a majority of users 2 GB will be ample although many will be running with far less than this.
32-bit architectures theoretically address up to 4GB of memory. In reality, even if you have 4GB of RAM onboard and are using standard XP or Vista, you still can’t benefit from it all.
This is because in some instances your motherboard will not have been designed to utilize that much memory and even if it has, all of your hardware—your graphics card, your I/O cards etc. has to be mapped into that 4GB of memory space reducing the amount available to the applications (software) you use even further.
Most average users (non CAD and home users) will probably only have 1GB and in most cases far less in their machine and will not for the foreseeable future need to address massive amounts of ram, as the programs they use do not and often cannot use more than 1GB or 2GB of memory anyway.
If you have got less than 1Gb though it will be highly advantageous to upgrade your memory as this can give your system a much needed boost, even for a home users.
If you have a local friendly computer support company you can also ask them about memory upgrades as well if you don’t want to do one yourself
Even if you have a multi-core processors and have a number of applications (programs) running together, chances are high that you will not use much more than 1 -1.5 GB of physical memory.
So for the average user 64 – bit computing is a bit of a white elephant and something they have no need to worry about.

If it does then you might be one of those who search for a solution to tackle this problem. Here are a few general tips that might help you in increasing your system’s performance and in turn speed it up to get the best possible results:
– There are many people like you and me that install useless programs on our PC and chances are we never use these programs. If there are any such programs on your computer that you do not use then get rid of it and remove them from your PC. This might be of a great help in cleaning up the junk and thus help in increasing your system’s speed and performance.
– Any program that is installed on your computer uses a lot of registry and thus it decreases your computer’s speed. There are lots of registry cleaners that are available near you, getting those would really help you in getting your computers registry safe and clean thus helping in increasing your computer’s speed. Cleaning your registry is very important if you have to keep your PC in the best performing condition.

Getting Started with Adobe Illustrator
September 25, 2008 by Victoria Barton · View Comments
We often find that delegates attending our Adobe Illustrator training courses have difficulty in getting to grips with the program, finding applications for it and incorporating it into their workflows. One of the main reasons for this is what we sometimes refer to as “Blank Canvas Syndrome”. The thing is: at first glance, Adobe Illustrator often seems a lot less enticing and inviting than, say, Photoshop. To many new users, Photoshop is like a big city with bright lights and lots of exciting things to do and places to go. By contrast, Illustrator can seem like a wasteland; there’s just nothing there when you create a new document; it’s up to you to create everything from scratch.
When we run Illustrator training courses, we accept that our job is not just to show delegates how the program works and how to use its various tools and options. We also need to show them how to get past this idea of the stark blank canvas with nothing on it. There are four main antidotes to Blank Canvas Syndrome. The first is to have a very clear idea of the type of artwork you want to produce with Illustrator. The second is to use the excellent Live Trace facility built into the program. The third technique is to make liberal use of scanned and other bitmapped images as points of reference. And, fourthly, reuse elements that you have already created, both within the same drawing and between different illustrations.
Getting started with Illustrator becomes a lot easier once you have a clear idea of what type of artwork you need to produce. We often run courses for companies who will be using Illustrator in a very specific way, such as fashion companies, architects or cartographers. This type of training tends to be very successful because it’s just a case of showing people which tools and techniques they need to use to create the necessary output.
For users who are using the software in a less clear-cut and focused way, we always try to point out on our Adobe Illustrator training courses that you don’t have to start with a blank canvas. We always recommend
that wherever possible you import relevant graphic material such as scanned images, keep them on a background layer and use various Illustrator tools and techniques to either trace the images or simply to use them as guides and points of reference as you are creating your own original artwork.
Illustrator’s Live Trace utility was developed from a standalone program called Adobe Streamline and is extremely powerful. It can be used to convert any scanned or bitmapped image into a vector. Naturally, the nature of the resulting vector image depends on the original. However, it’s very fast and the results can be extremely impressive; so it’s always worth trying it out if your feel that it may create something you can clean up and use.
As well as tracing, it is also often useful to just keep an image on a background layer and constantly refer to it as you create your artwork. It can also be useful to reduce the opacity of the background image to about 40 or 50 percent so it doesn’t become obtrusive. Sometimes you may manually trace around areas of these reference images. Other times, you may just use it for reference, so you can check the dimensions or shape of elements that you create in the foreground.
Almost all drawings you create will contain elements that either repeat or are variations on the same theme. Naturally, you will not create such elements from scratch each time you need them. Illustrator contains a wide variety of useful techniques for duplication and transformed duplication of existing elements within your drawing. It also allows you to apply multiple attributes such as fills and strokes to the same object. Thus, for example, you can create the appearance of several concentric circles simply by adding several strokes to one circle (using the Offset Path effect to get the right position).
In short, that blank Illustrator page can soon be filled with lots of funky stuff. The trick is to realize that, once you decide what it is you want to create, your can accelerate the process of drawing by tracing elements from bitmapped images, using images as points of reference and basing new items within your drawing on elements that you’ve already created.
What is a Graphics Tablet?
September 24, 2008 by Megan Trudeau · View Comments
jarhead free download A graphics tablet (or digitizing tablet, graphics pads or drawing tablet) is a small electronic input device. Like a mouse or keyboard, it allows a user to interface with his or her computer. A tablet consists of a flat surface and a stylus, to be used like a virtual pen and piece of paper. Your computer’s cursor reflects any movements made by the stylus on the tablet, allowing you to point, click, write and draw on your computer.
marie antoinette dvdrip How do I go about buying a graphics tablet?
Buying a graphics tablet can be a little overwhelming at first, but here are the most important features to consider before purchasing anything: the tablet’s price and size (these two go hand-in-hand; the larger the input area on a tablet, the steeper the price), interface (how the tablet connects to your computer), pressure sensitivity (how sensitive the tablet is to reading differing pressure levels from the stylus) and any accessories or peripherals (note any included stylus, mice, connection cables) .
Before you do anything, you should determine the price range you’re willing to spend for a new tablet. First-time buyers and novice users should probably look to spend considerably less than their professional counterparts. Lower-end tablet models offer a more practical price for users who aren’t professional graphic artists. These tablets tend to have less advanced features and a smaller tablet size, but are nonetheless viable options for newer users.
The size of a graphic tablet refers to the size of the input surface area, not necessarily the size of the actual physical tablet. Standard sizes include 4″x5″, 6″x8″ and 9″x12″. It is important to note that the prices increase dramatically with the size, so it helps to keep in mind the price limit that you’ve set for yourself.
Most graphics tablets communicate with a USB interface and do not require a separate power source. The
other option would be a serial interface, which necessitate a separate power source and an open serial port on your computer. It’s important to weigh the different interface options to decide which is the right setup for you and your computing needs.
Another important feature of graphics tablets is their sensitivity to pressure. Standard pressure sensitivities are 256, 512 and 1024, where the higher the number means a higher sensitivity to pressure input from the pen stylus. Tablets with a higher sensitivity are often priced higher than those with lower sensitivity, so it’s important to note in order to stay within your price range.
Finally, you should pay attention to the included stylus and any other accessories or peripherals. For any potential tablet, it is important to test the stylus- Is it comfortable to hold in your hand? Does it feel cheaply made? Is it tethered to the tablet, or wireless? Does it require any batteries or outside power source? What other accessories are included? Will I actually use any of them? Does it include any software? It’s important to think about how you will be using your tablet when deciding the pros and cons of any included stylus and/or accessories.
You should have a little better idea about shopping for a graphics tablet now, but it is ultimately a personal decision to make. Try to think about what you want out of your future tablet before purchasing- Will you need it to be portable? Are you looking to use it for work? How much are you willing to spend? By answering these questions beforehand, it makes finding and purchasing the perfect tablet a little less daunting. So good luck and happy shopping!
Where Can I Find Free Antivirus Software For XP?
September 23, 2008 by Hugh Duddy · View Comments
AntiVir Personal Edition Classic 8 for Windows XP, 2000, NT, ME and 98
This is touted across the internet as the best free antivirus software on the Internet. It scans exceptionally well and will run even while you are working with other applications. Download.com gives this free program a 5 star rating.
The positives of AntiVir 8 are its manual scanning features that let you scan individual files and folders by right clicking on them or dragging and dropping them into the application window. It is configured to run in safe mode – a very convenient feature! You can choose to have full reports on every problem issue or receive just the basic information concerning viruses. It updates automatically, runs on a schedule and has various options for scanning tasks.
People do complain that it is very slow when downloading definition updates and does not detect a majority of the spyware that may be on your machine and the spyware it detects requires you to buy the software for removal.
Version 4.8 of Avast! Antivirus
With a good CNET rating and great Download.com rating, this software offers protection against viruses, spyware and adware. While its rates of spyware detection are not all that great (finds 1/3 of spyware), it does include removal of spyware in addition to virus removal.
Avast Antivirus v4.8 is always free without restrictions. Forums and blogs discuss it with good reviews because of its great detecting and removing abilities as well as its fast connection and downloading of updates.
The worst things said about Avast concern the need to register if you wish to use it beyond 60 days and keep registering every year after that. When you realize that paid programs are virtually the same only you have to pay for your subscription, this negative doesn’t seem too inconvenient.
Antivirus programs are a necessity for every computer that is connected to the internet. If you find the high cost of popular antivirus programs too much for your budget, AntiVir Personal Edition Classic 8 and Avast! Antivirus v4.8 are satisfactory alternatives. Cost should not be a factor when it comes to protecting your files from harm. To be sure you are getting the real versions, visit their home sites to download them. There are fraud sites online that will try to either sell them to you, or download spyware and viruses in place of the real free versions of these programs.
