Where You Can Buy Inexpensive PC Software

February 27, 2009 by A Noton · View Comments

PC software can be expensive, which is why it’s important to find the best deals possible. Being that we can’t exactly operate a computer without software or do the things that we enjoy with computers, it’s a must that we have software. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing a computer game, keeping track of business expenses, or protecting your computer from viruses. Some of these programs are really expensive.

But the good news is that you don’t have to sell a kidney or a limb in order to purchase the PC software you need. There are places online and even offline that will allow you to purchase PC software at a great price.

Where can you buy?

First of all, you really need to look on the Internet. Here are some of the places you can look to find the software that you need:

- Online discount retailers – These are retailers that buy programs in bulk so that they can sell them much cheaper. A company is always able to sell cheaper if they can buy more.

- Auction websites – There are auction websites that allow you to buy software programs both new and used. Used programs are going to cost a lot less than new ones. This is something you might want to think about because you never know when you might get unusable software. What’s great though is you’re still able to find cheap new programs on these sites.

Software stores – This one is a given, but there are software stores that will sell their PC software cheap.

You can do a simple Internet search in a search engine and find places that sell cheap PC software. Just make sure you look up their reputations so that you know you’re doing business with a reputable company. Anyone can create a website and sell software so be very careful.

In the offline environment, there are plenty of places you can buy. You can go to your local department store but you may find that the prices are still rather high. They may be cheaper than if you go to the computer store, but it’s still possible for you to get them for less. Here are some places to check:

- Discount software stores. They may, however, have used software. See if they test their programs when they get them in so that you know whether or not you are buying something that works.

- Flea Market. The flea market doesn’t always mean that what you’re getting is not good. There are some vendors that set up at flea markets and sell software in packages that have never been opened. They may also sell used programs. Use your own discretion.

- Yard sales. Yard sales are also great places to check out because they’re individuals who many never open their PC software and they sell them.

- Schools . Check with schools because schools and colleges get a great discount which is then passed on to you as a student. Many times when you are a student, you may be able to get an expensive program for a few dollars anyway so that you can do your homework at home on your own PC.

Look everywhere!

So look everywhere. You might be surprised at what places you may be able to find cheap PC software. Why pay $300 for a program when you can get it for half of that or for a quarter of the cost? There is no need for that. You can buy your own licensed copy, which is another reason why you need to be leery of used programs. Used games are okay, but with anything requiring a license, make sure you get a new program and make sure you explore the deals before making your final move.

Take This Precaution Before Working On Your Computer!

February 24, 2009 by Kermil J. Fogarth · View Comments

If you’re going to open up your personal computer case to check some computer hardware components or clean up the hardware, you must take the precautions listed. Computer motherboards and components, such as the sound card, video card, and memory, contain very delicate Integrated Circuit (IC) chips. It’s necessary to protect computers against damage from static electricity. A brief explanation of static is its a major contributing factor in the breakdown of computers. Eliminating the damage from ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) can save you a lot of money. Here are some things you must remember and precautions to follow whenever you work on your computer.

is soma a benzo 1. Unplug the power cord to the computer before opening the case to work inside of it. With the cord unplugged you are sure there is no power to the motherboard.

2. Capacitors can still store electric charges for a short time from the when you turned off the power switch so it’s wise to wait a few minutes after pulling the plug before working on your PC.

3. A properly grounded wrist strap can be purchased from an electronics store to prevent ESD. Use one of these before touching any components inside such as hard drive, video card, memory stick, etc. If a grounded wrist strap is not available then make sure you touch a grounded object such as a metal pipe to discharge any built up static so you don’t “shock” your components.

4. To avoid damage due to static electric discharge, hold circuit boards by the edges and avoid touching the individual components, wires, chips, or capacitors.

5. If you are going to remove components from the system, connect an anti-static mat or use the bag the component came in to place them on and prevent static discharge. Also be aware the hard drive is heavy and can easily slip out of your hand and if dropped may very well not work again.

6. Never ever open items labeled as non-serviceable. Components labeled “Non Serviceable Components Inside” are not a challenge because opening them up could lead to serious injury. Some parts of your computer just aren’t meant to be repaired. The power supply is one such item and should be replaced if defective, don’t attempt to repair it.

Remember that you are responsible for protecting yourself from injuries and from causing damage to your computer. A common incident is loss of stored data due to a hard drive crash. These are some simple things to remember that will protect you, your computer and most of all the data stored on your computer.

Are Wireless Networks Available In Your Area?

February 22, 2009 by Keith Harris · View Comments

Wireless networks are more available than they used to be. They can be found in offices, schools and even expressway service stations. They are fairly affordable and very easy to setup. You would be amazed at what you can accomplish with a wireless network.

Many schools have wireless networks in their schoolrooms and even in their residence halls. Every student that has a compatible PC can finish their homework or even play on-line games. Each section within a business may have separate uses for their computers. It’s vital that all the sections can communicate with one another to do their lines of work.

free prom night You can have a wireless network in your home as well. One all your youngsters may be exploring the Web for their homework while the other may be simply playing an online game. Having a wireless network in the home will help them both achieve this at the same time. The benefits of a wireless network is extensive.

It’s really easy for anyone to set up a link in their house. Each computer within the house can be connected to the World Wide Web without a bunch of cables strung all over the floor. In an office environment, it’s important that each department can communicate with each other fast. Even though it’s quite easy to setup this type of electronic network, you would be advised to call in a professional if you were using this for your company.

It is essential for college students to be able to access the Web and the school’s information system directly from their dorm room.  With wireless networks, every computer can be on the Internet at the same time. You will be able to send links, files and programs to other members on the network without much effort. If the system is setup right, you are even able to link to assorted computers within the same building from your laptop computer even though you are in a different room.

Using a wireless electronic network like this means you are using the system to its broadest extent. Using this system is very plain and is a easy process to set up. It doesn’t matter what other people are doing on their PC as you are working independently and can work on different jobs at the same time. Taking an MCSA Networking Course

February 18, 2009 by Jason Kendall · View Comments

The Microsoft MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) course is perfect for anyone looking to get into supporting networks. Whether you’re about to get started in the industry or are experienced already but want a professional course with a good qualification, you can find the right training. Each of these scenarios requires a specific course, so pay attention that you’re being offered the best one prior to making a start. Identify a company that’s happy to take the time to get to know you, and what you’d like to do, and is able to furnish you with enough information to decide.

Getting to the most suitable career development choice is hard enough – so which sectors are important to investigate and what are the questions we need to be seeking the answers to?

Commencing with the understanding that we need to find employment that excites us first and foremost, before we can contemplate what educational program fulfills our needs, how do we know the right path? Flicking through lists of IT career possibilities is no use whatsoever. The majority of us have no concept what our next-door neighbors do at work each day – so what chance do we have in understanding the complexities of a new IT role. To come through this, there should be a discussion of a variety of different aspects:

* The sort of person you are – what tasks do you really enjoy, and on the other side of the coin – what you hate to do.

* Are you looking to achieve a key goal – like working from home sometime soon?

* Where is the salary on a scale of importance – is it very important, or is day-to-day enjoyment further up on the priority-scale?

* Some students don’t fully understand the time required to gain all the necessary accreditation.

* You will need to understand the differences across the myriad of training options.

sexy beast free

For most people, dissecting these areas requires a good chat with an experienced pro who has direct industry experience and we’re not only talking about the accreditation – but also the commercial needs and expectations of the market as well.

If you forget everything else – then just remember this: You absolutely must have proper 24×7 instructor support. Later, you’ll kick yourself if you don’t follow this rule rigidly. Email support is too slow, and so-called telephone support is normally just routed to a call-center which will just take down the issue and email it over to their technical team – who will attempt to call you within 24-48 hrs, at a time suitable for them. This is all next to useless if you’re stuck with a particular problem and have a one hour time-slot in which to study.

If you look properly, you’ll find the top providers that offer direct-access support all the time – at any time of day or night. Never settle for anything less. 24×7 support is the only way to go with computer-based study. Perhaps you don’t intend to study during the evenings; but for most of us, we’re at work when traditional support if offered.

The age-old way of teaching, utilizing reference manuals and books, is often a huge slog for most of us. If all this is ringing some familiar bells, look for learning programs which feature interactive and multimedia modules. We see a huge improvement in memory retention when we use multiple senses – educational experts have expounded on this for decades now.

Locate a program where you’ll receive a library of CD and DVD ROM’s – you’ll start with videos of instructor demonstrations, and be able to hone your abilities through virtual lab’s. Any company that you’re considering must be able to demonstrate a few examples of the materials provided for study. You’re looking for evidence of tutorial videos and demonstrations and a wide selection of interactive elements.

It’s usually bad advice to choose training that is only available online. Connection quality and reliability varies hugely across the ISP (internet service provider) market, ensure that you have access to CD or DVD ROM based materials.

‘In-Center workshop days’ get touted as an important element by many trainers. If you talk to many computer industry hopefuls that have tried them out, you’ll begin to see a common thread – they are viewed as a major problem because of many things:

* Repeated driving or public transport – 100′s of miles in more cases than not.

* Getting time off work – a lot of companies can only give Mon-Fri workshop availability and often group days together in a clump. This can be hard for a lot of working people, and this is made worse if traveling time is added into the mix.

* Don’t disregard lost holiday time. Often, we get twenty days annual leave. If half is given up to classes, then we haven’t got much left for ourselves.

* Workshop days usually are over-subscribed, so we end up having to take the ’2nd best’ solution.

* Class pace – center-days can contain trainees of mixed abilities, consequently tension develops between students with more background knowledge and the ones who need a little longer.

* You shouldn’t forget the added expense of driving and over-night accommodation either. Don’t be surprised to find this become 00′s or even 000′s extra. Take some time to add it all up – you’ll be (unpleasantly) surprised.

* Quite a lot of students want study privacy to avoid any kind of questions in their work.

* Raising questions in the presence of other class-mates will often make any one of us a little awkward. Would you admit that you’ve occasionally avoided posing a question because you were worried it might make you look silly?

* Working and living away – a lot of students find they have to work or live away for certain parts of their study. Events are impossible at that point, but you’ve already paid for them when you paid initially.

It has to make so much more sense to learn at your convenience – not your training provider’s – and make use of instructor-led videos with interactive lab’s. Training can take place wherever it suits you. If you own a laptop, why not take in a little fresh air outside while you learn. Any problems and utilize the 24×7 Support. You could come back to any of the learning modules whenever you need to revise. You also don’t need to make notes as you’ll have direct access to the instruction whenever you want to go back to it. The final outcome: Reduced hassle and stress, less cost, and absolutely no traveling.

Can job security really exist anywhere now? In a marketplace like the UK, with industry changing its mind on a whim, it seems increasingly unlikely. In times of growing skills shortfalls coupled with increasing demand though, we can locate a fresh type of security in the marketplace; where, fueled by the conditions of constant growth, businesses just can’t get enough staff.

The Information Technology (IT) skills shortage throughout the country clocks in at approx twenty six percent, as reported by the 2006 e-Skills study. Quite simply, we only have the national capacity to fill just 3 out of every four jobs in the computer industry. This disquieting concept underpins the requirement for more appropriately certified computer professionals across the United Kingdom. Because the IT sector is increasing at such a speed, there really isn’t any other sector worth investigating for retraining.

Netbooks: Extreme Value and Portability

February 16, 2009 by Jayson Lee · View Comments

Nowhere is the popularity of netbooks easier to spot than on Amazon.com. As of February 2009, viewing the top selling laptops on the online shopping giant’s website reveals that most of the five best selling laptops are netbook computers. Cost conscious computer shoppers have made netbooks an overwhelming success.

Perhaps you’re considering buying a netbook and would like to know more about them or maybe you’re curious as to why they have become such a major hit with consumers. The following is a brief overview of netbooks and a discussion of the factors that have led to their popularity.

A netbook is a newer kind of computer designed for maximum portability and ease of use. Netbooks are significantly smaller than traditional laptops and lack a conventional notebook’s speed and processing power. Netbooks typically run Windows XP Home or a version of Linux specifically tailored for the netbook.

Prices for netbook computers run from roughly $350 to about $500 at this time. Top selling netbooks presently include models from Acer, Asus, Samsung , Dell and HP. Most computer makers have, however, incorporated a netbook or a line of netbooks to their offerings in order to meet the swelling consumer demand.

While netbooks lack the computing power to run resource intensive applications directly on the netbook, WiFi

capability is a signature feature. This makes it quite possible to stay connected via email, use Internet based software and perform most standard computing operations albeit using a smaller display screen and keyboard. Netbooks are no replacement, however, for desktops or even most traditional laptops.

The popularity of netbook computers stems from their portability and affordability. Computer users wanting an inexpensive laptop that traveled well and was capable of fulfilling their basic needs were a segment of the market that had traditionally been underserved. Netbooks resonate with the user who doesn’t need the latest bells and whistles or the fastest processor and doesn’t want to have to pay for such.

Computer components are constantly in a state of getting faster, more powerful and often smaller. As the technology continues to evolve, consumers may soon see netbooks evolve as well. Future netbook computers may come equipped with more power and more robust features. Presently, netbooks provide an alternative for laptop buyers looking to save money and have mobile access to several useful features.

As price and ease of use are key factors for consumers wanting to purchase a laptop, the appeal of the netbook computer is simple to understand. While netbooks offer less flexibility and computing power, they ably address the needs of a segment of the market that desires portability and basic functionality. When technology improves and netbooks evolve in stride, the distinction between laptop and netbook may become less clear.

Buying a Cooler for Your Laptop

February 13, 2009 by Jack Liu · View Comments

Laptop cooler’s are easy to find and can be found by different names such as Chill Mat, Notebook Cooler, Chill Pad or Cooler Pad. Laptops are booming the market almost throwing back all the other computer related gadgets. Still, they have some defects where the heat generated is not controlled by the existing fan device creating a problem of loosing the components of the system as it gets overheated.

A laptop cooler is an attachment that helps reduce operating temperature when the existing fan device of your laptop is insufficient in reducing the heat. Laptop cooler’s are designed in such a way that they are usually helpful in reducing the heat that comes from the bottom of the device. These coolers have their own fans that use power from the power adapters, however; the most up to date versions of a chill pad use the USB port on the laptop. There are certain other devices that are more advanced and offer an insert for memory sticks or key drives.

Laptops are very economical in power consumption but still tend to get warm while carrying out certain activities. If a laptop is used in regular intervals or daily and has no problems, this is an absolute perfect scenario but usually the problems you can face are very common like slow performance, getting scrambled or crashing down. Generally just heavy usage of a laptop alone doesn’t make the equipment warm but unknowingly if you use your laptop in places where there is excess heat or direct sunlight hitting your laptop, even this can add to heat generating while carrying on general activities. A chill pad prevents such problems.

Some other features include card readers for various forms of media such as key drives, 2.5″ laptop hard disk drives and memory sticks. Chill mats house its own fans which are placed right below the laptop. They’re designed to draw heat from the underside of the computer and others are used to blow cool air to the notebook. The speed of these fans can be controlled manually or automatically and for some the speed remains constant.

Still there are certain risks while using a chill pad. a chill pad is not built in notebooks but they need to be plugged in which means the equipment has to bear an excess power load. Many laptops today only supply 2.5 watts of power in the USB port. A study conducted by California Polytechnic University in regards to the heat resource on a laptop computer says the plug in reduces the life span of the laptop. However, if the laptop was lifted from the bottom so that it was at an angle, the heat would freely move away from the laptop. This is a proven method to reduce the risk of an overheated laptop.

Many notebooks are designed considering the survey results of California Polytechnic University by creating an angle by lifting the laptop you can tilt the device to 360 degrees giving your a clear view of the screen. These cool pads prevent your laptop from becoming overheated. There are certain chill mats tgat don’t use fans instead they use a crystalline compound to cool laptops.

How To Keep You Computer Running Fast And Error Free

February 12, 2009 by Ed Lathrop · View Comments

No one is happy when their computer fails to work properly in any way. The problem that annoys my customers more than any other is when their computers slow down. No failure is good, but a computer slow down it seems, is the worst!

When a computer slows down, there are the usual suspects. However, there is often an overlooked problem that is to blame. In this article, we will talk about these usual suspects as well as the often overlooked problem.

Spyware Is Still A Problem And So Is Registry Corruption

Malware which is otherwise known as spyware, adware, viruses and the like can cause a computer to act strangely while becoming very slow. By now most people know about this problem and so they have their computer protected with some type of virus or spyware scanner. If anyone doesn’t have a spyware/virus cleaner installed on their computer, they are playing with fire because these parasites can be harmful to both a computer and a person’s private records.

In the last couple of years, registry corruption has become a very big problem for PC owners. Windows XP and Vista registries become corrupted very easily. Because of this, many people have decided to install a good registry cleaner on their computers. This is a great choice because registry corruption will cause a computer to be slow and error prone.

It is possible for a computer to be spyware/virus free as well as free of registry corruption but still be slow. It used to be when I found a problem like this I would have to look for another problem and very likely it would be a big job to track it down.

6 Software Programs To Repair Your PC

February 10, 2009 by John Jones · View Comments

The best part of owning a computer is the wealth of information and software available to run on it. However, that doesn’t mean that all software is good or all information is helpful. I have put together this guide for you to make life easier on your PC. This doesn’t mean that your computer will run perfectly but it will probably run a lot better than if it didn’t have these choices software on it.

1. Firefox – this is a fantastic browser. Seriously, if you’re not using Firefox, you don’t know what you’re missing. It absolutely beats the pants off Internet Explorer and other browsers. Did I mention it’s free? What else do you need? Oh yeah, it’s pretty fast too.

2. Spybot – Spybot software gets rid of adware, spyware, and other junkware. It blocks the installation of spyware that can do harm to your computer before it’s allowed to be installed. It’s not a replacement for anti-virus software though. It’s just a way to make your overall computer more secure. Every little bit helps.

3. AVG Ant-Virus

– AVG offers basic anti-virus protection. This is not the best virus protection program out there, but it is very good. For the price, it might be the best. If you’re in a pinch and you think you have a virus, this is the software to use. They can help you out of a jam and get your computer cleaned up.

4. Zone Alarm – if you’re on the Internet, your computer needs a firewall. Newer versions of Windows do come with a firewall, but it is not what some would consider completely adequate. If you don’t have a firewall installed, you should really try the software. Even if you do have a firewall, it might be good enough.

5. Notepad++ – the notepad that comes with your computer does read text files, but that’s about all it does. If you’re a programmer or even someone who just wants to get more out of your notepad text editor, Notepad++ is for you.

6. OpenOffice.org

– Word documents or PowerPoint presentations are everywhere. Working with Microsoft Office documents no longer means that you have to buy Microsoft Office. In the good old days, life was simpler in terms of computer viruses. The simple ability to catch and eradicate the virus was easier because a virus could only be transmitted to a floppy disk.

The virus took quite a while before it was able to infect a computer and slow down the system. Before viruses caused to much damage, the anti-virus software of that time was very effective to identify and kill the viruses.

Computer users in those days were pretty confident on how to protect themselves. They just had to scan all of their floppy disks before copying them to the desktop.

Then the Internet came which provided a channel for Internet viruses to move from host to host with tremendous speed . The internet user had to worry about e-mail, e-mail attachments, peer to peer file sharing, instant messaging and software downloads.

Viruses of today will take full advantage of vulnerabilities within the system or program. Without any human intervention, they attack your PC through multiple entry points. The potential of new threats increases with new technology advancing every day.

Using a online virus cleaner to protect your computer

Fortunately, anti-virus software companies are keeping pace with current virus threats which is essential for keep your computer virus free and free of other malicious software.  They are designed to protect your hard drive from adware, spyware and other viruses that entered through e-mail or other Internet ways. These virus scans offer a centralized control feature that handle use, configuration and updating.

You should remain careful against the threat of a virus by just following a few simple steps.
