Protecting A Network Using Honey Pots

These days it’s possible to feel completely confident about hacker attacks as long as you have the most effective security in place. But what is the most effective security? How do hackers work? How can you feel completely confident?
If you want to know, read on.
In order to attack someones network, you will need to know as much as you can about that network, so gathering as much information as possible is pretty much where they all start. The information can be technical or non-technical, for example, the partners of the target can be useful for them to know, the location of all office branches etc. This information can help hackers understand the possible technologies in place to stop them.
Technical information may contain IP addresses in use, services available, etc. More services running on servers means more entry points. More entry points make it easier to get access.
The more services running on servers means more points of entry for the hackers. For example, if you saw that server A only had port 21 open, but server B had 7 different ports open, then server B is the clear choice for entry because each open port is an entry point and you get full access if you can bypass the security to one port entry point, so the one with more options would be the clear choice.
Now what if I deployed SERVER-B just to grab your attention, distracting you from some meaningful server SERVER-A. I may install a (fake) server SERVER-B for hackers to attack so as to safe guard my production servers, as soon as they start I can now study attack patterns. Is it not a brilliant idea? That’s called the honey pot.
Basically, what a honey pot is is effectively a trap designed to detect, distract and generally counter attempts to hack into your servers. Usually its in the form of data or a network that appears to be part of your main system and to contain valuable data, but in fact its isolated and monitored.
A honeypot is valuable as a surveillance and early-warning tool. It can carry risks to a network, and must be handled with care. If they are not properly walled off, an attacker can use them to break into a system. Honeypots can be classified based on their deployment and based on their level of involvement. Based on the deployment, they can be classified as:
Production Honey Pots and Research Honey Pots
Production Honey Pots: These Honey Pots are used mainly by the bigger companies and corporations in order to increase their overall security. They are easy to use, and only capture a small amount of information which would be useless to a hacker.
Research Honey Pots: These are run by volunteers or an educational organization to simply gather information about how hackers work, their motives and tactics in order to create better protection from them.

Being a recent graduate in the Arts and Commerce background, I envy all those software techie guys who make mega bucks by just sitting in front of a computer. After wandering for years and researching the field, I found out Software testing is the next boom in the market and that ISTQB certifications for testers have already enrolled 1 million testers all over the world. Further research revealed that just about anybody could become a tester irrespective of their software background, so I decided to pen down the complete software testing theory on Google just for you.
It’s a known fact but I would like to re emphasize that it 1988 there were around 400 servers, and twenty years later there are more than 20 million servers, 25 million IT professionals and a career and an era that’s threatening to change the way we look at the world.
The faster the development in the IT sector , the better it is for related domains and exposure. More and more talent is required to fill the gaps in the IT industry in coming years when IT becomes essential to 
mankind. Testers are people who use the software before the customer uses it. That’s it!
The Risk of trial and error is very minimal when compared to the outstanding results that it can generate. Where You Can Buy Inexpensive PC Software

PC software can be expensive, which is why it’s important to find the best deals possible. Being that we can’t exactly operate a computer without software or do the things that we enjoy with computers, it’s a must that we have software. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing a computer game, keeping track of business expenses, or protecting your computer from viruses. Some of these programs are really expensive.
But the good news is that you don’t have to sell a kidney or a limb in order to purchase the PC software you need. There are places online and even offline that will allow you to purchase PC software at a great price.
Where can you buy?
First of all, you really need to look on the Internet. Here are some of the places you can look to find the software that you need:
- Online discount retailers – These are retailers that buy programs in bulk so that they can sell them much cheaper. A company is always able to sell cheaper if they can buy more.
- Auction websites – There are auction websites that allow you to buy software programs both new and used. Used programs are going to cost a lot less than new ones. This is something you might want to think about because you never know when you might get unusable software. What’s great though is you’re still able to find cheap new programs on these sites.
– Software stores – This one is a given, but there are software stores that will sell their PC software cheap.
You can do a simple Internet search in a search engine and find places that sell cheap PC software. Just make sure you look up their reputations so that you know you’re doing business with a reputable company. Anyone can create a website and sell software so be very careful.
In the offline environment, there are plenty of places you can buy. You can go to your local department store but you may find that the prices are still rather high. They may be cheaper than if you go to the computer store, but it’s still possible for you to get them for less. Here are some places to check:
- Discount software stores. They may, however, have used software. See if they test their programs when they get them in so that you know whether or not you are buying something that works.
- Flea Market. The flea market doesn’t always mean that what you’re getting is not good. There are some vendors that set up at flea markets and sell software in packages that have never been opened. They may also sell used programs. Use your own discretion.
- Yard sales. Yard sales are also great places to check out because they’re individuals who many never open their PC software and they sell them.
- Schools . Check with schools because schools and colleges get a great discount which is then passed on to you as a student. Many times when you are a student, you may be able to get an expensive program for a few dollars anyway so that you can do your homework at home on your own PC.
Look everywhere!
So look everywhere. You might be surprised at what places you may be able to find cheap PC software. Why pay $300 for a program when you can get it for half of that or for a quarter of the cost? There is no need for that. You can buy your own licensed copy, which is another reason why you need to be leery of used programs. Used games are okay, but with anything requiring a license, make sure you get a new program and make sure you explore the deals before making your final move.
