The 24 Hour Google Chrome Experiment
Now, just so you understand because the browser isn’t “officially” released yet, but is still in beta (which means open testing), there are quite a few bugs in the program right now. It locks up on occasion, and even YouTube doesn’t work right unless you make two downloads that aren’t readily apparent.
However, for a first shout out of the gate, it is pretty darn good.
The core premise of everything that Google makes is simple and easy to use. That’s why their search engine
astronaut farmer the dvd download blew away the older search engines like Yahoo, users liked the simple and easy to use interface. Chrome takes that premise and brings it into the internet age, with a very sleek, simple and easy to use Internet Browser.
After 24 hours of using Google Chrome, I’m impressed with the functionality of the browser. It’s light, easy to use, the interface is uncluttered and the footprint of the program is smaller. It takes up less memory and processing power than any of the other browsers with the possible exception of Opera. It responded very quickly as well. Probably a little faster than Firefox, and quite a bit faster than IE7.
download rear window movie One thing to keep in mind is the footprint the program leaves. How much of the computer’s resources does the program use. It’s not uncommon to have a simple page take up 40-50MB with Internet Explorer, while Firefox takes up half of that, and Chrome takes up even less than Firefox. With the lower overhead that leaves more of the processor and memory to handle multi-tasking of all your other priorities.
Google was smart and adopted Mozilla’s use of add-ons to extend the functionality of it’s browser. Already there’s a rush from developers to develop new add-ons to expand the use of the browser. If this takes off like Mozilla’s Firefox has done, this will be a huge attraction for users to try this new browser.
Of course, one thing that is very important is load time of pages. And Google Chrome sure delivers. It opens pages quickly and completely. Only sometimes hanging up on complex javascript/flash pages.
Google has stated they want to move almost all applications into a browser-centric environment. Look at the huge strides they have made with Google Docs. If Google gets their way, they’ll make Chrome an integral part of most of your online activities, whether that be surfing the internet, sending out an email, or creating and editing documents and spreadsheets. I can definitely see the attraction of this centralized computing, although I also think it’s a little scary with Google having access to some of my most important information.
All in all, it was a good first effort from Google. I like their browser, it has potential. I probably won’t make the switch as I really, really like all the Firefox plug-ins that I use, but I could see making the change in the future. And at the very least, hopefully new innovations will help Microsoft and Mozilla to adopt better innovations in their products as well, and then we all benefit.

Agreed – for a beta release it’s quite stable, and the browsing experience rivals FF. I’m going to try using it as my primary browser for a while and see how long I last.
